Uxmal (Yucatec Maya: Óoxmáal [óˑʃmáˑl]) is an ancient Maya city of the classical period located in present-day Mexico. It is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Maya culture, along with Palenque, Chichén, and Calakmul in Mexico, Caracol and Xunantunich in Belize, and Tikal in Guatemala. It is located in the Puuc region of the eastern Yucatan Peninsula, and is considered one of the Maya cities most representative of the region’s dominant architectural style. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its significance. It is located 62 km south of Mérida, capital of Yucatán state in Mexico. At 300 meters from the village of Onavas, south of Sonora, was discovered the first recorded pre-Hispanic cemetery in the state, is 1000 years old and retains the burials of 13 individuals with cranial deformation, five of them also with dental mutilation, practices never before. The burial ground consists of 25 individuals; 13 have intentional cranial deformation and five also have dental mutilation. ‘This unique find shows a mix of traditions from different groups of northern Mexico,’ said Moreno. Mexican TV revealed the almost unbelievable story – in 2007, a baby ‘alien’ was found alive by a farmer in Mexico. He drowned it in a ditch out of fear, and now scientists have finally been able to announce the results of their tests on this sinister-looking carcass. At the end of last year the farmer, Marao Lopez, handed the corpse over to university scientists who carried out DNA tests and scans. He claimed that it took him three attempts to drown the creature and he had to hold it underwater for hours. Tests revealed a creature that is unknown to scientists – its skeleton has characteristics of a lizard, its teeth do not have any roots like humans and it can stay underwater for a long time.
